Sunset Sails Tours
Trimaran and sailboat trips from Quepos

Sunset Sails Tours, the company behind the old Trimaran Sunset Sail Tours name, is a family business that's been sailing the Manuel Antonio coast since 1997. It runs morning and sunset trips from Marina Pez Vela in Quepos on a 49-foot trimaran and a 54-foot monohull, with a snorkel stop and a meal. It suits groups on the trimaran and couples or small parties on the sailboat.
What they offer
Sunset Sails Tours is a family company that's been taking people sailing off Quepos and Manuel Antonio since 1997. Older guidebooks and this site's earlier page called it Trimaran Sunset Sail Tours, after its best-known boat. It says it was the first catamaran company to operate in Manuel Antonio.
There are 2 trips a day. The morning sail runs from about 9 am to 12:30 pm, and the afternoon trip runs from about 2 pm to 6 pm so you're on the water as the sun goes down. Both follow the coastline toward Manuel Antonio, with time to look for dolphins and, in season, whales, and an anchor stop in a jungle-fringed bay for snorkeling. Fruit, snacks, drinks and a meal (lunch in the morning, dinner in the afternoon) are included, along with snorkel gear for adults and kids.
The boats
- Lorelei is a 49-foot trimaran: a main hull with 2 outrigger hulls. It's the bigger, steadier option, with lots of shade and deck space, so it's the one used for larger groups.
- Camaradien is a 54-foot monohull sailboat, often described in listings as a Gulfstar. It's aimed at couples, honeymooners and small groups who'd like a quieter, more private trip.
Which boat you'll be on depends on the day and group size, so ask when you book if you have a preference. On calm days expect some motoring, since the sails need wind to do the work.
Where you leave from
Both boats are based at Marina Pez Vela in downtown Quepos. Free van pickup is included from hotels and villas in the Quepos and Manuel Antonio area. If you're staying farther away, for example in Dominical or Jacó, you'll need to get yourself to the marina.
Who it suits
- Couples and small groups who'd like a real sailboat rather than a party catamaran.
- Groups and families who want the space of the trimaran.
- Sunset seekers. The afternoon trip is the more popular of the two.
For a bigger, livelier catamaran day from the same marina, see Planet Dolphin.
Good to know before you book
- Humpback whales are seen off this coast in two seasons: southern-hemisphere whales from about July to October and northern ones from about December to March.
- The green season (roughly May to November) often brings afternoon rain, so the morning trip is a safer bet for dry weather.
- Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and a towel.
